This video demonstrates the process of painting the eyes in watercolor, as part of Karen Schaaf’s portrait workshop training series.
Remember . . . the sclera, or “white of the eye,” is rarely pure white. Look carefully for subtle shifts in value and color that help the eye sit naturally within the face.
When painting brows and lashes, group the hair into shapes rather than drawing each individual strand. Eyelashes also curl outward and vary in length, so avoid painting them as straight lines.
Pay close attention to your edges. Keep transitions soft under the brow, in the upper lid fold, and along the outer edge of the eye to maintain a natural appearance.
